Tony Salerno (a.k.a. Anthony Haden Salerno) is an American voice actor, ADR director, scriptwriter, and filmmaker known for his dynamic work in anime, video games, and audiobooks. He gained prominence voicing Rex Raptor (Yu-Gi-Oh!), Chazz Princeton (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX), Donatello ’87 (Turtles Forever), and Chip (Sonic Unleashed). He was an ADR director for the earliest seasons of the Pokémon series, and voiced characters like Ramos and Aerodactyl. He directed animated series for 4Kids Entertainment, including Shaman King, The Winx Club, Pokémon Chronicles, and Magical DoReMi. Tony has also directed and narrated numerous audiobooks for Audible and Hachette Book Group.
The Voice Actor Academy's Masterclass with Tony Salerno Course Overview A four-session online voice acting masterclass designed for complete beginners, taught by Tony Salerno - professional voice actor and director known for his work on Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sonic The Hedgehog, and award-winning audiobooks. This course prepares students to confidently audition and perform voice over work from their own home studio. This four-session course is structured where each class builds on the knowledge and foundations learned in the previous class, culminating in a comprehensive education. Classes can be taken individually as well, if so desired. Instructor Tony Salerno (a.k.a.  Includes: Instructor feedback, digital resources, and final project Class 1: Foundations of Voice Acting & Home Studio Setup Objective: Understand voice acting fundamentals and build your own basic recording setup. Industry overview (commercials, animation, narration, etc.).
 • Intro to vocal technique: warm-ups, breathing, posture • Setting up your home studio: microphones, interfaces, DAWs • Acoustics: how to treat your recording space * Recording demo and peer introductions Homework: Set up your basic studio. Practice daily warm-ups. Analyze 3 VO samples. Class 2: Script Analysis, Cold Reading, and Delivery Objective: Learn how to break down scripts and deliver multiple styles of performance. Script types: commercial, narration, dialogue • Cold reading, tone, pacing, intention • Slating and file etiquette for auditions • Group performance exercises with live feedback Homework: Record two versions of a script in different tones. Submit for review. Class 3: Character Creation & Vocal Range Objective: Explore your vocal range through character building and expressive acting. Vocal placement, archetypes, emotional expression. • Creating original character voices • Performing animated and video game dialogue • Intro to vocal layering & effects Homework: Develop a 30-second monologue using a unique character voice. Class 4: Auditioning, Editing, and Going Pro Objective: Master self-recording, editing basics, and next steps in the industry. Where to find work (casting sites, agents, freelance). • Live mock auditions and critiques • Basic audio cleanup: noise reduction, trimming, EQ • Branding tips and demo reel guidance Final Project: Record and submit a clean audition.
